About AFAA

GOALS
AFAA is an international association for the development and support of the advertising industry of Asia. The federation aims to promote, protect and develop advertising within the context of conditions and varying cultures prevailing in the Asian region. It offers a wide range of services, platforms and resources dedicated for the purpose of planning, coordinating and implementing programs to elevate the standards and viability of advertising at the Asian level.

THE AFAA STORY
The idea for an Asian Advertising Association was born in 1958 when the first Asian Advertising Conference was held in Tokyo. It was tabled again by the working committee of the 10th Asian Advertising Congress held in Sydney in 1976, which affirmed that there was a need to set up a federation in the context of growing internalization. It reached fruitation two years later when in July 1978, representatives of advertising associations of ten Asian countries, in an unanimous decision agreed to set up the Asian Federation of Advertising Associations.

Mr. Antonio de Joya, Chairman of the Organizing Committee summed up the philosophy -’An Asian Federation must, by its very nature, be a sevus populi, a servant of the advertising practitioners in Asia, a planner/ doer/coordinator of the tasks that must be done rather than as a would-be Asian overlord who might be tempted to infringe upon the prerogatives of individual trade associations or federations in our respective countries.’

Signatories in the joint statement in 1978 represented advertising associations from Australia, Hong Kong, Israel, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore.

AFAA Events

ADASIA
This is a bi-annual event hosted in turns by member countries in Asia under the auspices of AFAA. The
host country has the privilege of selecting a theme to research into the issue of various cross-regional
marketing communications. It is the largest congress of its kind, attracting approximately 1,200
advertising professionals in Asia and around the world.

DIGIASIA
DigiAsia is a digital marketing congress organized by AFAA. It is the largest forum and exhibition
startup with around 70 thousand attendees from related industries and learners from home and
aboard. Top speakers, advertising intellectuals and representatives from advertising agencies,
advertisers, media, public relations industry, digital network industry and related university
departments from all over the world share their observations on Creative, Media, Technology and
Future market. The Taipei Association of Advertising agencies (TAAA) plays host for this outstanding
event which takes place in Taiwan once in two years (every even year). The Congress encourages
digital professionals to learn, share and experience under the common goal of creating a better
future.

OLIVE CROWN AWARD
India’s Olive Crown Award honours are now AFAA endorsed. This truly pan-Asian event recognises creative excellence in communicating sustainability, realizing the importance of establishing and encouraging “green platforms” in an increasingly competitive environment. The Awards are given away in the presence of top advertising, marketing and media professionals in the audience under various categories. Additionally, it honours a Green Crusader with a Citation and an Award and also a Corporate Crusader, chosen by an erudite Jury.

AFAA FASTTRACK
AFAA understands the hunger and passion in young professionals to make a difference and be recognised. The AFAA Fasttrack Professional Excellence Programme is designed to give young talent a boost that will lead them to make a quantum leap in their careers. This intense 3-day residential programme prepares young communications and marketing professionals to :
• Explore their role in the advertising and marketing industry and understand how their contribution can make a 
  difference to themselves, their careers, their organization and the
industry.
• Explore and break through limiting beliefs and mindsets that get in the way of their success.
